MainStage Academy of Dance enforces specific attire guidelines to ensure a cohesive and professional appearance during classes and performances. All students are required to adhere to the designated MSAD Dancewear, which not only fosters a sense of belonging but also enhances the overall visual appeal of our classes. Additionally, the uniformity of appearance achieved through proper attire reflects positively on the professionalism and dedication of our dancers. It is our belief that when dancers feel comfortable and unified in their attire, they are better able to focus on their technique and artistic development, ultimately enhancing their overall dance experience at MainStage Academy of Dance.
Dance Attire Guidelines:
Leotard: Female dancers are required to wear a black MainStage Logo leotard, while male dancers should wear a white MainStage Logo leotard.
Tights: Female dancers must wear convertible pink tights, while male dancers should wear full-footed black tights (convertible tights are acceptable). Cut-off tights are not permitted. Academy boys have the option to wear bike shorts or black sweatpants in their early years at the studio.
Ballet Shoes: Female dancers are required to wear pink ballet shoes with elastics, while male dancers should wear black ballet shoes with elastics for safety reasons.
Ballet Skirts: Ballet skirts are allowed only in Academy Division Pointe classes unless specific permission has been granted by the instructor.
Jazz Shoes: Black Jazz oxfords are mandatory for all Hip-Hop classes.
Hair Requirements:
All female students with hair chin-length or longer must style their hair in a traditional ballet bun for all classes. For those with very short hair, it should be neatly secured off their face to avoid distraction. Boys with long hair must tie it back neatly in a ponytail, while those with short hair should ensure it’s kept tidy and off their face. In Tot Combo & Creative Movement classes, a firmly pulled back ponytail is sufficient. Headbands are not recommended as they tend to fall off during dancing.
Warm-Ups:
Students are encouraged to wear warm-up/cover-up clothes before and after their classes and are required to arrive and leave the building with their dancewear appropriately covered. Plastic pants, shorts, leg warmers, or any other concealing warm-up clothes may not be worn during class unless specific permission has been granted by the instructor.
